[before the sun rises. that was the promise that he'd made. so it doesn't matter if his anger isn't fully sated after those hours have passed. it doesn't matter that he has one doctor on his knees and begging, who crawls away when sungki looks towards the nearest window.
he'll have to come back for him. he will come back for him, and that's the promise that the fae makes him before stepping out of the flames of the man's house to the sound of approaching sirens.
the world outside of the ruinwood is so different. sometimes sungki forgets how different it actually is. it secretly makes him appreciate the weird forest all the more, even with all its pollen and ducks that can't be plucked. he makes his way back to it quickly, an eye to the sky as it goes from deep purple to light lavender, closer and closer to the pink that comes with the morning sun. the room itself is still dark when he crawls back through the window. sungki goes to hunter's side of the bed, placing his hand over his mouth while holding a finger against his own lips.
there are other rooms. sungki will help him to one of them.]
[ Hunter did rest for a time - mostly because he was more tired than he wanted to admit.
But he stirs first because he can feel Sungki back in the Ruinwood. Good. And right before he’d get in trouble, too.
Hunter doesn’t startle under the Fae’s hand, and he does nod his understanding before he begins to carefully sit up and swing his legs over the side of the bed. ]
[the fae's voice is a whisper in his ear, playful, seductive, but always with that little bit of darkness just under the surface, like hunter might open his eyes and find sungki holding something's severed head with a smile on his lips.
always a possibility.]
Hunter...
Hey! Over here!
Psst! This way.
Huuuunterrrr.
[it keeps calling out to him, sometimes sounding far away but other times sounding like he's just around the corner. it leads him out of the house and into the woods proper, deeper and deeper until it stops at the edge of a pond.
no, the pond. the one that daeshim regularly warns them about. it's a mer pond, lesser fae with the appetites of piranha. but the ruinwood has its share of ponds and lakes, fed by small rivers and streams. there are plenty of places to sunbathe or swim - fish too, as long as you catch and release.
the charred remains of the mer await hunter when he arrives, scattered at the edges of the lake that they'd tried to crawl out of - out of their element. the water that they can't possibly live outside of, but in the moment they were too desperate to think about that.
the air smells a lot like burnt catfish.
and at the center of the pond, a unicorn floatie, bright and colorful and at odds with the carnage. and sungki is on that floatie. not just his voice, but his entire body. his softer curves are scantily clad in something sheer and short, black. his arms and shoulders are bare, along with a few inches of his thighs that the stockings don't cover, though they look more like tentacles crawling along his legs.
he smiles at him, one foot lazily kicking in the water.]
[ wouldn’t that be a treat? And one that he would fully expect, especially after the bitten off fingers he’d been given before.
Some might have found the whispering — creepy. (and they have all rights to think that, given…that it would come off as such)
But the sound of it lulls him awake much more calmly than one would expect.
Except—the gremlin isn’t there. Hunter frowns a little and glances around himself before finally getting up to follow the flow of it.
IF it would stop wafting away like that, at least.
Still, interest has been piqued and he follows it with a hum. ]
What’re you up to….?
[ Out of the house, into the grass, and, oh, maybe he should have put on shoes? No…not necessary. The cold is barely there. He’s like a self-heating oven lately.
Yes, through the grass, stepping over Little Rock’s until the scent hits his nose and the gentle sound of water lapping at the bank. What he finds is not what he was expecting, and yet it also kind of was. He knows this lake. It’s the one he was told to stay out of or be eaten. Daeshim was very specific.
Hunter takes a moment to kneel down, wings tucking tighter against his back to keep from getting dirtied by fishy remains. Interesting. Who’d have thought that he’d see crispy mer-folk climbing out the lake.
Or that he would look up and find the unicorn floatie or all things in the middle of the lake. He grins a little and bites back a laugh, it’s warm and low and he’s taking in the sight… ]
Smart one, you are. Lure me to a fish fry and then offer me calamari? I am absolutely going to marry you.
*How tf do you keep the avocado OUT of the guacamole??? He probably does end up looking at him like he’s dumb. You get a bag of chips and the dip on the side. Weirdo.
i despise morning sickness. i don't feel good, when are you coming home? pick up some chicken fried rice and egg foo young on your way. we'll see which one came first.
love you ♥
unless you forget the chicken fried rice.
It’s a fancy Polaroid. Like the kind they take at crime scenes.
Spaghetti + children = early afternoon nap time. He must remember this, it's better than drugging them. Lavender crawls onto the couch first, patting the spot beside her for her puppy girlfriend. Soon, they're out like a light. He gets one of the mothlings to fetch a blanket to cover them with.
Actually....spaghetti + anyone = early afternoon nap time, especially with the amount of carbs that Sungki ate. It's not long before he's asleep on the other end of the couch.
There'd better not be any more crows pecking on his windows.

You owe him a blowie later. ♥

When Hunter returns home, he immediately moves through the house to find everyone.
And when he does, it’s an unexpected scene, really. Dawnya and Lavender are curled up together making those tiny baby snoring sounds and Sungki…
Hunter softens and moves over to him and brushes his hand over his cheek, “Babe…go lay down where it’s more comfortable. I can finish watching them.”
